Dr. Fong is a psychiatrist in Los Angeles, California and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA and UCLA Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and has been in practice between 11-20 years.

Purpose:

To raise clinical knowledge and skills about how to identify, screen, diagnosis and manage substance use disorders in the geriatric population. The purpose of this presentation is to narrow the gaps in understanding and knowledge about addiction that currently exists in primary care settings.

 

Objectives: 

  • Describe current trends in geriatric substance use and misuse
  • Apply clinical skills in screening and identifying harmful substance use disorders in a geriatric population
  • Discuss FDA-approved medications and evidence-based therapies 
  • Apply FDA-approved medications and evidence-based therapies in a geriatric population with substance use disorders
  • Implement screening to screen harmful substance use disorders in the elderly patients
