Dr. Tan is the Medical Director of the UCLA Alzheimer's and Dementia Care Program and Assistant Dean for Curricular Affairs at the David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California Los Angeles.  Dr. Tan holds the Philo Van Wagoner Endowed Chair in Geriatric Medicine and is the Associate Chief for Education at the UCLA Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine.

"Dementia For The Primary Care Physician"

 

Purpose:

To enable participants to recognize, diagnose and treat dementia in the primary care setting.

 

Objectives: 

  • Review the prevalence of dementia in the U.S. and globally
  • Explain the differences between the most common types of dementia: Alzheimer’s, Lewy Body, Vascular, Parkinson’s and Fronto-temporal dementia
  • Apply the basic diagnostic steps in patients presenting with a memory complaint
  • Incorporate FDA-approved treatment for Alzheimer’s disease
